Fix: AdBlock / AdBlock Plus Not Working on YouTube

Adblock is a popular choice for users that do not want to watch ads on Youtube. But many people have reported that Adblock is not working for them. There are a few reasons for this and the fix is pretty easy. Let’s jump into the causes and fixes for AdBlock not working on Youtube.

Adblock not working on mobile device

Adblock has been designed as an extension. For this reason, the service mainly works on web browsers on PCs. Adblock does not work with the Youtube app but you can still use the service on your mobile device.

Open Youtube in Safari on iOS or on the Samsung browser if you have one of those. Adblock is compatible with these browsers, so you can still use it. But the experience will be less smooth than on the Youtube app. Adblock does not work on any other mobile browsers.

The old restart

The restart method is perhaps the easiest and most efficient universal problem solver. Even your dad knows about this one, but it’s easy to miss because it’s so simple. A restart refreshes all system operations and forces software to resume basic functionality. If the issue is not more severe, this works most of the time.

Acceptable Ads enabled

You may have Acceptable Ads enable in AdBlock settings. This could be causing a lot of ads to still appear on Youtube. Especially with the same ad playing over and over again on the website these days. To turn off this function, do the following:

Click on AdBlock icon – Options – General – uncheck Allow some non-intrusive advertising

Go to Filters Lists – uncheck Acceptable Ads

Filter Lists update required

AdBlock usually updates automatically but sometimes a manual approach is needed to restore system functionality. Do the following to manually update Filter Lists:

Click on AdBlock icon – Options – Filter Lists – Update Now -Restart your PC

Safari Fullscreen Mode

Accessing fullscreen mode in Safari causes AdBlock to not work on Youtube. There is no direct fix for this issue but try enabling Content Blocking. The best fix, however, is to use another browser where Adblock has no issues.
