League of Legends Won’t Open Windows [Quick Fix]

In this post, we’ll be showing you ways around League of Legends’ launch error, which is typically encountered while trying to open the game.

Some League of Legends players (on Windows) have complained of a startup error that disrupts the smooth launch of the game. Typically, the error force closes the game, each time you try to open it.

Anyway, herein are some fixes.

Fix: League of Legends Won’t Open Windows

This launch error could be caused by a bug on the Windows client version of the game or it could be a ripple effect of a system error/issue.

In either case, below are some fixes you can try from your end:

Note: Ensure that you have a stable internet connection (preferably on Wi-Fi or a stable wired connection) and disable any firewall (or setting) that could be interfering with the game’s launch. Also, make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date.

Solution 1: Restart PC

You’ve probably tried this already; however, in case you’ve not, you can give it a try. At times, though rarely, startup errors such as this are caused by minor system glitches, which could easily be fixed by a simple reboot.

If the error persists after restart, you can try the next fix.

Solution 2: Reinstall as an Administrator

First off, uninstall the game and remove all files associated with it from your PC (including all its registry files). After removing the game’s package, reboot system.

After system reboot, sign into your PC as an Administrator, and navigate to League of Legends’ official download site; to download a fresh package of the game. Subsequently, install the game and try launching it as an administrator. This should work.

If the error persists, try the next fix.

Solution 3: Repair Launcher

To do this:

  • navigate to Windows Explorer
  • locate and double-click Riot Games > League of Legends
  • select the RADS folder
  • double-click on Projects
  • find the folder tagged “lol_launcher” and then remove it.

After removing the launcher file/folder, relaunch the game and wait for it. LoL would auto-download new launcher files for you.

Closing Note

If the error persists, you can try using the “Hextech repair tool”, which is recommended by Riot Games, for fixing various kinds of errors in Leagues of Legends. Get the tool here.
