Pokémon and Tencent Partnering on a New Game

The Pokémon Company is teaming up with Chinese internet sensation Tencent to create a new Pokémon game.

The two companies proclaimed the partnership today and showed that Tencent’s Timi Studio will lead development on the impromptu launch. Timi focusses in mobile games development, such as Call of Duty: Mobile. This fact makes us believe that the Pokémon release could be mobile too!

The Pokémon brand is right now blooming on mobile. Niantic’s Pokémon Go AR game has been a huge hit, also new releases from DeNa and Pokémon Masters will be launched later this summer.

In the non-mobile field, GameFreak is preparing to launch the next Pokémon generation, Sword and Shield, soon. This will be the first Pokémon launch ever made for a Nintendo home console, and the first leading Pokémon launch for the Nintendo Switch.

Enthusiasm for Sword and Shield has been moderately silenced by the news that the National Pokedex will not appear in the upcoming Sword and Shield. So, some of your Pokémon from the last generations may not be mutable to the next Pokémon game.

Nintendo, who co-owns the Pokémon brand, is also growing its existence in China thanks to Tencent. Both companies signed already an agreement to bring the Nintendo Switch to China, and the new agreement between The Pokémon Company and Tencent will come up with Nintendo’s top brands to the country, too.
