The Punisher Season 3
The Punisher is an American web series based on the marvel characters created for Netflix. Steve Lightfoot is the showrunner of this series and it is produced by Marvel Television in alliance with ABC Studios. The first season aired on 17th November 2017 and a month later the series was renewed for a second season which came out on January 18th, 2019. Finally, Netflix decided to cancel the series after the first two seasons.
The storyline
The first season revolves around the life of Frank Castle who is an ex Force Recon Marine. After the tragic death of his family members, he goes out on a mission to find and destroy his enemies. Subsequently, he gets the name ‘ The Punisher’. While doing this he unravels the troubles his family went through and decides to completely stop injust doings.
The second season also had a similar kind of plot. The Punisher is living a normal and regular life after avenging his family but he is forced to save the life of a girl whose life is in danger as murders are after her. These events make him question himself if he should continue his life as the punisher or not.
The Cast
Over the past two seasons, the series has had a pretty huge cast. Some of these include Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle aka the Punisher, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as David Lieberman, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Daniel Webber as Lewis Wilson, Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix. Many talented actors have done amazing jobs by playing supporting roles. There have been additions to the cast of season 2.
Will season 3 be released?
In 2019 Netflix decided to cancel the show, though the punisher has run successfully for 2 seasons. Internet sources say that Netflix did not have any stake with Marvel studios and had to pay ABC studios a licensing fee for every season consequently this caused a major inconvenience thus Netflix decided to call it off. However, Netflix has announced that Marvel shows will be streamed shortly. Sadly there will not be a season 3 for the punisher fans.
Some news for the fans
In one of the interviews, the director Lightfoot with Collider said ” I’m taking the position where, when I made season 1, it went out and we didn’t know whether we would get a season 2, but the show did well enough and we got to season 2 pick up. I’m living optimistically that well get to go again.”
Again in an interview when one of the makers of Marvel said that it would ultimately be Netflix’s decision whether they want to stream the punisher or not. We have received mixed messages from the showrunners, therefore, we cannot conclude what will happen. However, Netflix will stream both the seasons.
