Madden 21 had a special spot in Microsoft’s Inside Xbox event revealing the Xbox Series X.
With Sony’s PS5 reveal event not even mentioning Madden 21, fans are wondering when and how they will play the game on the new console.
Free upgrade to PS5
FIFA fans got some amazing news during EA Play. They will get a free upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 for FIFA 21.
Madden players didn’t get that fanfare, but they too will have Dual Entitlement for Madden 21.
That means if you buy it and play on PS4, you can upgrade to PS5 when the new hardware arrives.
Madden 21 PS5 edition?
EA has not mentioned a separate or upgraded edition of Madden 21 for next-gen.
This may be because the console is not expected to arrive until at least November, three months after the release of Madden 21.

However, 2K has for NBA 2K21, and it is quite revealing.
NBA 2K21 is priced at $59.99 (£54.99) for current-gen, and $69.99 (£64.99) for next-gen.
If you wait until the PS5 arrives to buy Madden 21, you could have to pay more!
When could it be released for PS5?
As mentioned there’s no official confirmation of a specific release on Next-gen just yet.
One theory is that it could come out at launch, as there is a three month window between Madden 21 releasing and ‘potentially’ PS5.
However this seems unlikely, as with the dual entitlement scheme, many may simply opt for the game for free, rather than paying extra.
What to expect from the PlayStation 5
Although Sony is keeping some details close to their chest, there is plenty of information out there about how the PS5 stands up to the competition – and importantly, how it will impact Madden 21.
PS5 Specs
The PS5 could be a truly legendary machine.
The PS5 insides are going to be under a bit more scrutiny than usual, given that Microsoft has also announced what’s inside the Xbox Series X, but it looks like things are still pretty good with the PS5 innards:
- CPU: 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)
- GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)
- GPU Architecture: Custom RDNA 2
- Memory/Interface: 16GB GDDR6/256-bit
- Memory Bandwidth: 448GB/s
- Internal Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
- IO Throughput: 5.5GB/s (Raw), Typical 8-9GB/s (Compressed)
- External Storage USB HDD Support
- Optical Drive: 4k UHD Blu-ray Drive
As you can see, the specs are fairly impressive, though it lacks some of the power of the Xbox Series X, it makes up for it by being a fair bit faster.
What does this mean for
Madden 21?
With Madden 21’s release date now confirmed, we know that it will arrive on PS4 before the PS5 is launched.
The improved graphics, including all-new ray tracing, will create an incredibly in-depth and realistic environment, with more detail able to be added to the stadium, crowd, and even the sidelines. So it could be worth waiting to play on the PS5.
No loading times
Diving straight in without any load times means you can spend more time actually playing the game.
This is especially good for Ultimate Team players, where loading in each scenario can prevent players grinding challenges quickly.
The impressive specs means that Madden 21 on PS5 could have more intelligent and realistic AI. Resulting in a much-improved gameplay experience that more closely resembles actual football.
In short, Madden 21 on the PlayStation 5 will be the most realistic looking Madden ever and the ultra-powerful hardware means an even better experience.
