Historical-drama has become one of the most popular genres in recent times. It gives the viewers a glimpse of the old times and tells stories that time has forgotten. The Last Duel is the latest addition to this genre. Based on Eric Jager’s eponymous novel, Ridley Scott directs the movie. Also, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Nicole Holofcener adapt the book to the film.
Formerly, 20th Century Fox held the rights of the movie. But after the Disney-Fox merger, Walt Disney now owns the rights. Film lovers have been eagerly awaiting the film’s release.
The Last Duel: Release date
Initially, The Last Duel had two release dates. Disney wanted to show the movie to a limited audience on this year’s Christmas day. Besides that, the international release date was on 8th January 2021. The film was under production when the pandemic struck. Consequently, Disney halted the filming to an indefinite period. So, for now, we are unsure when work on the movie will begin.
At the moment, we don’t have any official confirmation for the release. However, speculations suggest that Disney plans to keep the scheduled date. Yet, we don’t know whether that would be possible.

The Last Duel: Possible cast
About the cast, we know that the movie will feature a strong ensemble cast. For now, we can confirm that Adam Driver and Matt Damon play the protagonists. They portray Jacques Le Gris and Jean De Carrouges, respectively. Furthermore, Jodie Comar also appears in the film as, Marguerite de Carrouges. Viewers will also get to see Ben Affleck as King Charles the sixth. Other actors such as Nathaniel Parker (Sir Robert D’Thibouville), Sam Hazeldine (Thomin du Bois), etc. also join the cast.
The Last Duel: Expected plot
The Last Duel is a period drama-thriller cinema. As we’ve mentioned before, the film is an adaptation of the novel. It follows Le Gris and De Carrouges, set in fourteenth-century France, best friends in the King’s army. After returning from the war, Carrouges accuses Le Gris of his wife’s rape. The former then approaches the King of France for a just punishment. But, the King leaves the judgment to fate and orders the old friends to duel to the death.
The Last Duel: Other developments
Initially, the film’s future was in doubt, as speculations suggested that Disney was hesitant. However, because of the subject’s popularity, they decided to produce it. The shooting started on 14th February in France, and it went on till March. Additionally, Ireland is going to be the next location for filming. Also, reports suggest that Scott had shot one-third of the movie by then. Currently, the editing work on the already shot parts is undergoing. For now, we expect the production to resume once things are safe again.

Filming of the movie isn’t complete yet. So regarding the trailer, we have no idea about it. If the film releases next year, then we expect the trailer to drop late this year.
