‘Spirits’ or otherwise known as ‘Spirit Riding Free’ is an animated tv series. Produced by Dreamworks, the series is based on the 2002 film ‘Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.’ The show debuted on Netflix in May 2017. To date, it has received seven more seasons, and, on 5th April 2019, the eighth season premiered. Additionally, each season contains six or seven episodes. Furthermore, multiple spin-off series has branched out from the show.
The show is mainly targetted at kids. Still, it managed to gain a considerable viewership among a wider audience. Moreover, the series has also won a Daytime Emmy Award.
Spirits Season 9: Release date
At the moment, Dreamworks animation hasn’t renewed the series yet. So we have no idea when it’ll return to the screens. However, speculations are running wild about the release date. Reports suggest that the series was supposed to release in October this year. But, the ongoing pandemic might have affected the production. In which case, Netflix might delay the release date to sometime next year.
Spirits Season 9: Possible cast
Since the series is yet to be renewed, we don’t know who’ll appear in the new season. However, we expect most of the cast to remain the same. Meaning that Amber Frank would return to voice Fortuna Prescott. Also, Bailey Gambertoglio and Sydney Park would reprise their characters of Abigail Stone and Prudence Granger, respectively. Joining them, Nolan North (voicing Jim Prescott), Tiya Sircar (Kathryn Flores) would also appear in the upcoming season. Of course, the show is incomplete without the titular horse, ‘Spirit.’
Spirits Season 9: Expected plot
Regarding the plot of season 9, we know next to nothing. Though we assume the story would pick up from where the previous season ended. In season 8, the Tides Run Academy accepted Fortuna as a student, but she decided to stay. And in the new season, we expect to see the repercussions of her decision. Additionally, viewers will also be treated with more of Fortuna’s and Spirit’s adventures.
Spirits Season 9: Storyline
Set in the small town of Miradero, the series follows Fortuna, a 12-year-old girl. As a newcomer to the city, Fortuna struggles to adapt to her surroundings. But one day, she meets a wild horse called ‘Spirit’ and instantly befriends him. Slowly, she becomes friends with two other girls, and together, they go on various adventures. In essence, the show is about families and friends.
Spirits Season 9: Other updates
In October 2019, Dreamworks Animation announced the development of a new movie. Based on the series, the animated film is scheduled to release in May 14, 2021. Also, Elaine Bogan and Ennio Torresan will serve as co-directors. Furthermore, Aury Wallington, who has created the Netflix series, will write the script for the new film.
Spirits Season 9: Trailer
The producers of the series are yet to reveal the trailer. However, trailers typically release some months ahead of the series. So it’s off the cards for now. Anyhow, when the trailer releases, we’ll let you know.
